What an RTE carton is
A reverse tuck end carton is a paperboard box whose top tuck hinges from one wall and whose bottom tuck hinges from the opposite wall — the tucks reverse. That small change lets the flat blanks interlock head-to-tail on the press sheet, so more cartons fit per sheet and the price per unit drops. It's the default folding carton for high-volume retail goods.
When to use an RTE carton
- Cost and volume. The efficient nesting makes RTE the most economical tuck carton to produce at scale.
- General retail packaging. Food, health and beauty, household, and boxed goods where price per carton matters.
- Fast automated packing. RTE runs cleanly on cartoning lines.
How it's specified
Like any folding carton, an RTE is called out as width × height × depth. The blank formula is identical to a straight tuck — the difference is only which edge each tuck hinges from:

Strengths and trade-offs
RTE is the workhorse retail carton: cheap, efficient on the sheet, and easy to run automated. The only visible trade-off is that the reversed tuck puts a small tuck slit on both the front-top and back-bottom edges rather than keeping the front pristine. For most products at volume, that's invisible to the shopper and well worth the savings.
