Packaging is almost always on the critical path to a launch, and the expensive mistake is discovering the timeline after you've set the date. Planning backward from your in-market date makes the trade-offs visible: if the order-by date is already behind you, you either compress a stage, pay to expedite, or move the launch. The front of the schedule — design, proofing, and any new tooling — is usually where the time really goes, so that's where to protect the buffer.
