What size should a soap band label be?
A soap band — also called a belly band or cigar band — is a strip of paper that wraps around a bar of soap and glues to itself. Getting the soap band label size right is simple once you think in terms of girth: the band has to travel all the way around the bar’s cross-section and then overlap itself so it can glue. Its length is the girth plus that overlap; its height is however tall you want the strip to sit across the bar face.
The two measurements
For a belly band around the short girth, the length is twice the sum of the bar’s width and height, plus your glue overlap. Wrapping the long way instead, it’s twice the sum of the length and height. The band height is a design choice — a third of the wrapped face is a balanced default, but a taller band leaves more room for branding and ingredients. Print it right the first time
Print the band at the flat size — length by height — and add about an eighth of an inch of bleed on any edge that shows, so a slight misalignment doesn’t leave a white sliver. Because handmade soap shrinks and varies as it cures, measure a finished, cured bar rather than the mold, and keep a little extra overlap so a slightly larger bar still wraps cleanly.

A belly band is a strip around the middle that leaves the bar partly exposed — cheaper and shows the soap. A full wrap covers the whole bar for more protection and print area. The calculator sizes a band; a full wrap uses the same girth math but a taller band that covers the face, plus bleed.
Do I need bleed on a soap band label?
If any printed edge of the band shows on the bar, yes — add about an eighth of an inch of bleed so a small misalignment during application does not leave an unprinted white edge. For a band that tucks its edges under, bleed matters less, but a little is cheap insurance.
