Before you re-tune the applicator, read the roll: a new lot with a deeper cut, a thinner liner, a wrong core, or the wrong unwind will jam a line that ran perfectly the day before.
- Check the roll first. If nothing on the machine changed, the variable that did change is the roll.

- Confirm the unwind position for your machine. Every applicator expects the label to present a specific way off the peel plate. - Correct the kiss-cut depth. On a standard pressure-sensitive label the die should cut cleanly through the face material and adhesive and leave the release liner intact. Too deep tears the liner at the peel plate; too shallow won't let the label separate from the matrix. - Set the gap and check the sensor. The applicator indexes on the gap between labels; a gap of roughly 3 mm (about 1/8 inch) is a common starting point, but the exact figure depends on your sensor and line speed — treat it as typical, not a rule, and confirm it against your machine's manual. - Match the liner and roll to the applicator. High-speed lines usually want a stiffer or filmic liner that snaps cleanly at the peel plate; the face material and adhesive have to suit the product and the dispense speed too. - Match the core and outer diameter, then manage matrix, adhesive, and static. Confirm the core inner diameter fits the mandrel and the roll's maximum outer diameter fits the unwind. Make sure the waste matrix was fully stripped and didn't break in converting, keep the peel plate clean of adhesive residue, and — for clear or film stock in dry rooms — add antistatic measures so labels don't cling.
