A note on honesty: this matrix is a general comparison, not a spec sheet. Amazon, Walmart, and each retailer publish their own fee schedules, dimension limits, warning-copy rules, and label templates, and they revise them. Design once, comply many
The practical workflow is "design once, comply many." You build a single, channel-neutral primary package, then keep a small matrix of the outer adaptations each destination needs.
- Design the primary package to the strictest channel. If any of your channels demands the most protective or most tightly specified pack, meet that bar first. It is far cheaper to relax a spec for an easier channel than to discover the hard channel needs a redesign.
- Keep the primary package channel-neutral. Put the fulfillment-specific pieces — poly bags, prep labels, suffocation warnings, FNSKU or item labels — on the outer layer, not printed into the primary artwork, so the same printed package works across channels.
- Build a prep matrix per channel. For each destination, write down the case pack, the case and pallet labels, the prep steps, and the testing it needs.
